Highwater Software · est. quietly
Smart software for you and people you know.
We make a handful of tools for families and groups of friends. They're private, they're useful, and we don't pretend they are anything bigger than that.
What we make
Currently it's four little apps. Two of which actually work for more than just me and my people.
None of these are particularly unique. The free versions work pretty well and might be all you need. These also aren't going to go away. Three of these four have been used by us internally for five to ten years.
Banker
A virtual bank to teach basic finances
It's not a real bank, but you can setup 'accounts' for your friends or kids. Schedule allowances, give their accounts interest rates. Great for teaching financial literacy over the long term.
Hownew.fun (Alpha)
How much of your ride was actually new?
Ever wonder how much of that last ride or run was on new roads, trails or whatever? This kinda does that.
Giftica
A gift registry or wishlist. Whichever you wish to call it. Private and fast.
A privacy-focused gift registry for families and close friends. No ads and no tracking. Just a handy way to make sure you don't get four of the same thing for your birthday.
Name My Server
Because 'server-prod-04' is a cry for help.
Pick a word list or an algorithm and we'll suggest a name for your next server, project, or pet. Tiny tool. Great fun. Served to you from delta.
How we work
Three things we keep coming back to.
Privacy is the default
We don't sell data, we don't share it with third parties, and we collect only what an app actually needs to work. That's it.
Built for people you know
Our apps are designed for small groups — families, friends, clubs and teams. Not for strangers at scale.
Small on purpose
We're a small shop making things we use ourselves.
Latest from the blog
Stuff that I wrote. Prose. Not software.
It's generally about one or more of these apps. Or things I use to build them.
HowNew!?
I often went on rides and would hit a road that was unfamiliar. But had I really been on that road before? I didn't know. This solves that problem.
Giftica beta soft launch
So once upon a time I was tasked with not only creating a list of things I wanted for Christmas, but also everything that 3/4 of my family wanted.
Hello from Highwater
I guess it's time to actually start being public about the fact that some of these little things exist.
